Utility of Point-of-care Ultrasound (POCUS) has significantly expanded over the last ten years across India and South Asia region. These compactly designed systems can be easily mobilized (as compared to conventional bulky cart-based Ultrasound machines) for quick bedside evaluation of critically ill patients, and new mountable touchscreen systems with ‘zero footprint’ can easily fit in the space constraint rooms of hospitals. POCUS has emerged as a versatile tool that can augment the diagnostic accuracy of the traditional bedside assessment of patients. It has got tremendous potential to be utilized for different head-to-toe clinical diagnosis of patients & this technology is apt for assisting physicians during the procedural guidance. The rising adoption of these devices by non-traditional users of ultrasound is due to the increased affordability, ease of use, mobility, and reliability of these systems. – by Nitin Gupta
